The Harvard Club of Australia Group comprises high profile but relatively informal organisations for Harvard Alumni of any nationality. Alumni status is granted to those who have attended a degree or other substantial program at Harvard University of not less than 6 weeks duration. Formed in 1961, the aim was to promote fellowship amongst the alumni of Harvard University and to assist Australians wishing to study there. Since its founding in 1961, the Club has built strong links with Harvard University, in particular through promoting learned exchange between Harvard and Australia. Our programs include:
Club members receive the quarterly Club News with current items of interest and details on upcoming activities and an bi-annual directory of members. There are regular lunches and occasional dinners with prominent speakers from business, the professions, government and society and with professors and leaders visiting from Harvard. Members attend arts and sports events and hold other evening social activities and there are occasional weekend trips and international conferences. Spouses/partners and guests are always welcome.
- The Menzies Scholarship, formed in 1967, which offers two annual awards of up to US$50,000 for postgraduate study at Harvard.
- The Australia-Harvard Fellowship, which funds the interchange of senior researchers between Harvard and Australia’s top research institutions.
- The Nonprofit Fellowships, which send Australian nonprofit managers to Harvard.
- The Leadership Program, which brings HBS professors to Australia each year for a senior executive education program.
Members benefit from the opportunity to meet at various functions held throughout the year where the theme is learning and entertainment. The aim is to offer unique insights and experiences that are not easily accessed.
Over half of the 1,600 Harvard Alumni currently living in Australia are members of the Harvard Club of Australia Group and over eightyfive “Crimson Fellows” have participated in club activities for 25 years or more
While the Clubs are centred on Sydney and Melbourne and open to all residing in Australia, there are active Chapters in South Australia, Queensland, Australian Capital Territory and Western Australia.
