| A recent Club
initiative, the Foundation was incorporated in 2003. Its purpose is to
support learned exchange between Harvard University and Australia. It receives
tax-deductible donations principally from Club members and from Club-sponsored
fund-raising activities such as its annual executive education program.
The HCA Foundation is a Prescribed Private Fund which means that gifts to the Foundation, as well as its own investment earnings, are tax-free when donated to 'eligible charities'. Such eliglible recipients include the Menzies Scholarship to Harvard administered by ANU, and the Australia-Harvard Fellowship tenable at Australian research institutions. The Foundation operates under a trust structure, and its funds are managed by Perpetual Trustees with advice from a board of senior Club members. Harvard's graduate schools usually seek contributions to annual Class Gifts but difficulties arise because such donations by Australians are not deductible against Australian income. Some graduate schools, however, do acknowledge donations to HCA Foundation as Class Gifts, the USD-equivalents being recorded against donors' names in Harvard's annual registers. Administrator Clive Gard can advise you which schools currently endorse this program and how to receive acknowledgment for your Class Gift. |
