Australian & New Zealand Students at HarvardThe ANZ Student Club at Harvard usually meets every 4-6 weeks to discuss a particular topic/issue that is facing Australia and/or New Zealand and then goes out for a couple of drinks in Harvard Square afterwards. Coming Events G'day ANZersThe Kennedy School of Government's Australia/New Zealand Caucus would like to invite you to an address by Geoff Elliott, Washington DC correspondent for The Australian newspaper. Geoff will be talking on the current state of Australia-US relations, the outcome of the mid-term Congressional elections from an Aussie perspective, and life as an Australian foreign correspondent in the US. Following Geoff's talk, we'll be opening up the floor for questions. Geoff's bio is posted at the end of this email.
The talk will take place at 6.30pm on Wednesday 15 November in Room 275 on the 2nd floor of the Kennedy School's Taubman Building. The location of Taubman can be found at http://map.harvard.edu/ by entering "Taubman" in the search field. (It is the building immediately on your right as you enter the Kennedy School from Elliot Street.)

Geoff Elliott, 39, has been the Washington correspondent for The Australian newspaper, Australia' s national newspaper, since April 2005.Geoff has reported for The Australian since 1999 but has clocked up more than 19 years in journalism. This includes a four year stint in London (1992-95) covering Eastern Europe 's transition after the fall of the Berlin Wall. Geoff also spent a year in Africa, reporting on South Africa 's transition from apartheid to democracy. Apart from The Australian, his work has appeared in many Australian and international publications, including The Australian Financial Review, The Economist and New York-based Institutional Investor magazine.
Geoff's experiences in Africa led to his first book, The Other Brother: The Search for Simon Holmes à Court (Allen & Unwin), a tale about the mysterious disappearance of the brother of Australia 's famous tycoon Robert Holmes à Court.
A recipient of a Walkley Award in 2003, Australia 's premier journalism award, Geoff moved to Washington with his wife Nikki and two children. Their third was born in September in Washington .
Geoff grew up in Perth and Bunbury , Western Australia , and has a Bachelor of Economics degree from University of Western Australia . He started his career in 1987 at The West Australian. And he says the only drawback to his Washington gig is that it keeps him from his great love: surfing.
